It was official in November of 2019. Once I got the rights for Harley-Davidson Rentals, it was my vision to do Harley-Davidson tours and retreats based around the health benefits. I will ultimately grow to Dream Rides for Charity and help get the word out on the benefits riding does that was sparked from Equine Therapy techniques that have been used for PTS.
If you’ve never ridden, can no longer ride, or don’t have an endorsement I want to share riding a Harley-Davidson with YOU!.
It all stemmed from my passion and love for riding a Harley. It was when I realized there was actual science behind the riding that had real therapeutic qualities that I knew I had to make this happen. Going for “Wind Therapy” was no longer a cliche.
● Riding a motorcycle decreased hormonal biomarkers of stress by 28%
● On average, riding a motorcycle for 20 minutes increased participants’ heart rates by 11 percent and adrenaline levels by 27 percent—similar to light exercise
● Sensory focus was enhanced while riding a motorcycle versus driving a car, an effect also observed in experienced meditators vs non-meditators
● Changes in study participants’ brain activity while riding suggested an increase in alertness similar to drinking a cup of coffee.
“While scientists have long-studied the relationship of brain and hormone responses to attention and stress, doing so in real-life conditions such as these is rare,” explained UCLA Professor and senior team member, Dr. Mark Cohen. “No lab experiment can duplicate the feelings that a motorcyclist would have on the open road.”
“The differences in participants’ neurological and physiological responses between riding and other measured activities were quite pronounced,” continued Dr. Vaughn. “This could be significant for mitigating everyday stresses.”
Without realizing what was happening I was giving myself therapy and didn’t know it. I worked long stressful hours with a even more stressful commute. I would find myself unable to concentrate or get extremely agitated. My only escape seemed to be just randomly hop on the bike to get away. Everytime I came back, it seemed things just “clicked”. I could step back and see obstacles more clearly.
I was on a board for Thurston County Veterans Services (TCVS.US) and we had a guest come in and she was from a Local Equine Therapy Ranch and she wanted to use her horses to help Vets with PTS (Post Traumatic Syndrom). Shortly after that, the idea spawned. Why does a horse have to be a real horse? Why can’t it be an Iron Horse! I immediately knew this was what I was meant to do and ultimately give back and share my gift of what Riding a Harley did for me and “Iron Horse Freedom” was born!
And there’s no better place to have a Harley-Davidson Rentals Tours and Retreats with Health Benefits than in the most healing/therapeutic place in the United States, if not the world; Sedona Arizona.
With the 4 vortexes, the unprecedented views, never ending roads that are talked about non stop, this was a no brainer for me.
There’s a reason they names Sedona “The Most Beautiful Place on Earth” and is why it’s one of 12 places National Geographic lists Sedona on their Geotourism Destination website.
